๐Ÿ’ก How to Calculate Backsplash Tile

Backsplash area = length ร— height. Standard backsplash height is 18 inches (countertop to upper cabinets). Full-height backsplashes go to the ceiling (36โ€“42 inches). Add 10% for waste from cuts, especially around outlets and corners.

Subway tile (3ร—6 inches) is the most popular backsplash choice. Count tiles by dividing the total area by individual tile area. Grout coverage: about 0.5 lbs per square foot for subway tile. Use unsanded grout for joints 1/8 inch or smaller.

A 10 ft backsplash ร— 18 inches high with 3ร—6 subway tile: area = 15 sq ft + 10% = 16.5 sq ft โ‰ˆ 132 tiles. Grout: 7.5 lbs.
