π‘ How to Calculate Baseboard
Baseboard is measured by room perimeter minus door openings (standard door width = 3 ft). Add 10% for waste from cuts β especially inside and outside corner miters. Standard piece lengths are 8, 12, or 16 feet.
Inside corners use cope joints (one piece butted, one coped to fit). Outside corners use 45Β° miter joints. Count the corners to plan joint types. Use a scarf joint (overlapping 45Β° cut) where two straight pieces meet along a wall.
A 14Γ12 ft room with 2 doors: perimeter = 52 ft minus 6 ft doors = 46 ft + 10% = 50.6 ft. With 8 ft pieces: 7 pieces. 2 inside corners (after subtracting door positions).
