๐Ÿ’ก How to Calculate Suspended Ceiling Materials

A suspended ceiling grid system consists of main runners (12 ft sections running the length of the room), cross tees (2 ft or 4 ft sections connecting main runners), wall angle (perimeter trim), and hanger wires (every 4 ft along main runners). Tiles drop into the grid openings.

The two standard tile sizes are 2ร—4 ft (most common in commercial spaces) and 2ร—2 ft (residential and offices wanting a refined look). With 2ร—4 tiles, you need fewer cross tees since tiles span the full 4 ft between main runners. Hanger wires support the grid from the ceiling joists above.

A 20ร—12 ft room with 2ร—4 tiles: 240 sq ft รท 8 sq ft/tile = 30 tiles. Plus 30 main runner pieces, 64 ft of wall angle, and 15 hanger wires.
