๐Ÿ’ก How to Calculate Concrete Beam Volume

Concrete beam volume = length ร— width ร— depth. Grade beams are horizontal beams that connect foundation piers and distribute loads. Typical residential grade beams are 12 inches wide ร— 18โ€“24 inches deep. Structural beams above grade may be larger depending on span and load.

All concrete beams require reinforcement. Minimum: 4 longitudinal bars (typically #5 or #6) with #3 stirrups spaced every 12 inches (closer near supports). Grade beams spanning between piers need bottom bars for tension. Use 3,000โ€“4,000 PSI concrete for structural beams.

Two grade beams, 20 ft ร— 12 in ร— 18 in: volume each = 22.5 cu ft. Total = 45 cu ft = 1.67 cu yd. Rebar: 160 lin ft of longitudinal bars. About 75 bags of 80 lb mix.
