πŸ’‘ How to Calculate Concrete Beam Volume

Concrete beam volume = length Γ— width Γ— depth. Grade beams are horizontal beams that connect foundation piers and distribute loads. Typical residential grade beams are 12 inches wide Γ— 18–24 inches deep. Structural beams above grade may be larger depending on span and load.

All concrete beams require reinforcement. Minimum: 4 longitudinal bars (typically #5 or #6) with #3 stirrups spaced every 12 inches (closer near supports). Grade beams spanning between piers need bottom bars for tension. Use 3,000–4,000 PSI concrete for structural beams.

Two grade beams, 20 ft Γ— 12 in Γ— 18 in: volume each = 22.5 cu ft. Total = 45 cu ft = 1.67 cu yd. Rebar: 160 lin ft of longitudinal bars. About 75 bags of 80 lb mix.
