πŸ’‘ How to Calculate Block Fill

Hollow CMU (concrete masonry unit) blocks have two cores that can be filled with grout or concrete. Solid grouting fills every core β€” required for reinforced walls and below-grade applications. Partial grouting fills only cores containing rebar, saving material on non-structural walls.

Fill volume per block depends on block width: an 8-inch standard block takes about 0.028 cu ft of grout per core fill. For 100 blocks solid-grouted, you need roughly 2.8 cu ft (0.10 cu yd). Always add 10% waste for spillage and overfill.

100 standard 8" blocks, solid grouted: 2.8 cu ft = 0.10 cu yd. With 10% waste: 0.11 cu yd. Or about 5 bags of 80 lb premix grout.
