π‘ How Much Does Concrete Weigh?
Standard concrete weighs 150 lbs per cubic foot (4,050 lbs per cubic yard). This is the most common type used for slabs, foundations, and structural work. Lightweight concrete (110 lb/cf) uses expanded shale or clay aggregate and is used for roof decks and non-structural fills.
Reinforced concrete (with rebar) weighs about 156 lb/cf due to the added steel. Heavyweight concrete (180 lb/cf) uses heavyweight aggregate like barite and is used for radiation shielding. Always account for concrete weight when calculating structural loads.
A 10Γ20 ft slab, 4 inches thick: 66.7 cu ft of standard concrete = 10,000 lbs (5 tons). That's the weight of two pickup trucks sitting on your soil.
