๐ก How to Calculate Drop Ceiling Materials
A drop (suspended) ceiling consists of wall angle around the perimeter, main runners every 4 feet, cross tees connecting the runners, and ceiling tiles filling the grid. Standard tile sizes are 2ร4 ft and 2ร2 ft.
Main runners hang from the joists/deck above with hanger wires every 4 feet. Install the ceiling at least 3 inches below the lowest obstruction (pipes, ducts). For 2ร2 tiles, extra cross tees are needed to subdivide the 2ร4 grid.
A 14ร12 ft room with 2ร4 tiles: area = 168 sq ft. Tiles: 21. Main runners: 36 lin ft. Wall angle: 52 lin ft. Hang wires: 11 pieces.
