💡 How to Calculate Pool Volume
Pool volume is calculated using the pool's surface area multiplied by the average depth, then converted to gallons. For rectangular pools: Length × Width × Average Depth × 7.48 gallons/cu ft. For round pools: π × radius² × Average Depth × 7.48. Average depth = (shallow end + deep end) ÷ 2.
Knowing your pool volume is essential for proper chemical dosing, heater sizing, pump selection, and filling time estimation. A garden hose delivers approximately 5–10 gallons per minute, so a 15,000-gallon pool takes 25–50 hours to fill from empty.
A 30×15 ft rectangular pool with 3 ft shallow and 8 ft deep end: average depth = 5.5 ft. Volume = 30 × 15 × 5.5 = 2,475 cu ft × 7.48 = 18,512 gallons (70,083 liters).
