πŸ’‘ Rebar Size and Weight Reference

Rebar is designated by bar number, which represents the diameter in 1/8-inch increments. A #4 bar is 4/8 = 1/2 inch diameter. A #8 bar is 1 inch. Weight per foot increases with the square of the diameter β€” a #8 bar weighs 4Γ— more per foot than a #4 bar.

Standard rebar comes in 20-foot lengths. Common sizes for residential: #3 and #4 for slabs and light foundations. #5 and #6 for footings, walls, and grade beams. #7 and #8 for heavy structural. #9–#18 for commercial and industrial applications.

#4 rebar (1/2" dia.): 0.668 lb/ft. 100 feet = 66.8 lbs, requiring 5 standard 20-foot bars. #8 rebar (1" dia.): 2.670 lb/ft. 100 feet = 267 lbs.
