π‘ How to Calculate Sand Quantities
Sand is used in many construction applications: paver base (1β2 inches), concrete mixing, masonry, sandbox fill, and leveling. The calculation is Length Γ Width Γ Depth Γ· 27 for cubic yards. Sand weighs approximately 1.35 tons per cubic yard (2,700 lbs).
For paver installations, you'll need two types of sand: leveling sand (coarse, ΒΎβ1 inch layer below pavers) and polymeric sand (swept into joints after laying). Leveling sand is calculated by area; joint sand is approximately 1 bag per 25 sq ft for standard pavers.
A 10Γ10 ft paver area with 4 inches of leveling sand = 100 Γ 0.333 = 33.3 cu ft = 1.23 cu yd β 1.7 tons. At 50 lb/bag, that's about 67 bags.
