πŸ’‘ How to Calculate Sand Quantities

Sand is used in many construction applications: paver base (1–2 inches), concrete mixing, masonry, sandbox fill, and leveling. The calculation is Length Γ— Width Γ— Depth Γ· 27 for cubic yards. Sand weighs approximately 1.35 tons per cubic yard (2,700 lbs).

For paver installations, you'll need two types of sand: leveling sand (coarse, ¾–1 inch layer below pavers) and polymeric sand (swept into joints after laying). Leveling sand is calculated by area; joint sand is approximately 1 bag per 25 sq ft for standard pavers.

A 10Γ—10 ft paver area with 4 inches of leveling sand = 100 Γ— 0.333 = 33.3 cu ft = 1.23 cu yd β‰ˆ 1.7 tons. At 50 lb/bag, that's about 67 bags.
