๐ก How Much Stone Do I Need?
Stone volume = area ร depth. Convert to cubic yards (divide cubic feet by 27), then multiply by the stone's density to get tons. Crushed stone: 1.4 tons/cu yd. River rock: 1.35 tons/cu yd. Flagstone: 1.5 tons/cu yd. Lava rock: 0.5 tons/cu yd (much lighter).
Coverage depth depends on application: decorative ground cover (2โ3 inches), pathway (3โ4 inches), drainage (4โ6 inches), driveway base (6โ12 inches). Order 10% extra for settling, compaction, and edge irregularities. Bulk stone is sold by the ton โ one ton covers roughly 100 sq ft at 2-inch depth.
