π‘ How to Calculate Wallpaper Rolls
Standard American wallpaper rolls are 20.5 inches wide Γ 33 feet long, covering approximately 56 square feet per roll. Euro rolls are wider (21β27.5 inches) and shorter (33 feet is standard). Actual usable coverage is less due to trimming, pattern matching, and waste around openings.
Pattern repeat is the most overlooked factor in wallpaper calculations. A large pattern repeat (21+ inches) can waste up to 15% of each roll in matching. Straight-match patterns are more efficient than drop-match patterns. For patterned wallpaper, always buy 1β2 extra rolls from the same batch.
A 12Γ10 ft room with 8 ft ceilings, 1 door, 2 windows: perimeter = 44 ft, wall area = 352 sq ft, minus openings = 301 sq ft. At 56 sq ft usable/roll = 6 rolls needed (no pattern). With pattern repeat = 7 rolls.
