πŸ’‘ How to Calculate Waterproofing Membrane

Waterproofing membranes come in three main types: sheet membranes (rubberized asphalt, 200 sq ft/roll), liquid-applied (100 sq ft/gallon), and peel-and-stick (self-adhered, 75 sq ft/roll). Calculate the surface area to cover, add 15% for overlaps and waste.

All seams must be overlapped 4–6 inches and sealed with compatible tape or adhesive. For below-grade applications, the membrane must extend from the footing to at least 6 inches above grade. Detail all penetrations, corners, and transitions carefully.

A 30Γ—8 ft basement wall: area = 240 sq ft + 15% = 276 sq ft. Sheet membrane: 2 rolls. Liquid applied: 3 gallons. Peel & stick: 4 rolls. Seam tape: 45 lin ft.
