π‘ How to Calculate Window Trim
Window trim perimeter = 2 Γ (width + height) for each window. Multiply by the number of windows for total linear feet. Add 10% for waste from miter cuts at corners. Standard window casing is 2.25 to 3.5 inches wide.
For picture-frame style casing (trim on all 4 sides), calculate the full perimeter. For traditional casing with a sill/stool, calculate 3 sides (top and both sides) plus the sill and apron separately.
Eight windows at 36Γ48 inches: perimeter each = 14 ft. Total = 112 ft + 10% = 123 ft. That is 16 pieces of 8 ft trim.
