πŸ’‘ How to Calculate Wire Mesh for Concrete

Welded wire mesh (WWM) comes in standard 5Γ—10 ft sheets or 5 ft wide rolls. Sheets must overlap a minimum of 6 inches on all edges. The most common specification is 6Γ—6 W1.4/W1.4 (10 gauge wire on 6-inch grid) for residential flatwork.

Calculate the number of sheets by dividing slab dimensions by effective sheet size (sheet size minus overlap). Wire mesh should be positioned in the upper third of the slab β€” use wire mesh chairs or rebar chairs to support it at the correct height during the pour.

A 20Γ—20 ft slab with 6-inch overlap: effective size = 4.5 Γ— 9.5 ft. Sheets wide: 5, sheets long: 3. Total = 15 sheets of 5Γ—10 ft welded wire mesh.
