๐Ÿ’ก BMR Equations Explained

Mifflin-St Jeor (1990): Men: 10ร—weight + 6.25ร—height โˆ’ 5ร—age + 5. Women: 10ร—weight + 6.25ร—height โˆ’ 5ร—age โˆ’ 161. This is the most accurate equation for most adults.

Harris-Benedict (revised 1984) gives slightly different results. Both are widely used. If results differ significantly, the Mifflin-St Jeor value is generally preferred.

30-year-old male, 70 kg, 170 cm: Mifflin-St Jeor BMR = 1,596 kcal/day. Harris-Benedict = 1,668 kcal/day.
