💡 The Harris-Benedict Equation

Original (1919) — Men: 66.5 + 13.75×W + 5.003×H − 6.755×A. Women: 655.1 + 9.563×W + 1.850×H − 4.676×A. This was the standard for decades but tends to overestimate BMR.

Revised (1984, Roza & Shizgal) — Men: 88.362 + 13.397×W + 4.799×H − 5.677×A. Women: 447.593 + 9.247×W + 3.098×H − 4.330×A. More accurate than the original but still overestimates slightly compared to modern equations.

30-year-old male, 70 kg, 170 cm: Original = 1,671, Revised = 1,668, Mifflin-St Jeor = 1,596 kcal.
